Es liegt die Annahme vor, dass sich die Unterstützung durch NGOs und transnationale Netzwerke der nicaraguanischen Migrantinnen und Migranten in Costa Rica positiv auf die lokale Entwicklung von Costa Rica und Nicaragua auswirkt. Diese Entwicklung und –möglichkeiten finden hier in einem transnationalen Feld statt, welches von MigrantInnen zwischen beiden Ländern durch ihre alltägliche Lebensrealität aufgespannt und von unterschiedlichen Faktoren wie sozialen Netzwerken, Sozialkapital, Remittances, Bildung, rechtliche, soziodemographische und wirtschaftliche Aspekte beeinflusst wird. Um diesen Interaktionen und Wirkungsfeldern eine adäquate Erklärungsbasis geben zu können, werden die Transnationalsismustheorien als Basis der Hypothese herangezogen. Die Arbeit und der Beitrag, welcher von den beteiligten NGOs und (in)formellen Netzwerken in diesem Feld geleistet wird, wird schließlich nicht nur auf direkte „sichtbare“ Entwicklungsergebnisse reduziert, da relevante Veränderungen nicht in einer zeitlichen Relation stehen. Im Zentrum steht vielmehr das Potential der Veränderungsmöglichkeiten, wie gesteigertes Bewusstsein, Empowerment und persönliche Entwicklung, die in ihrem Zusammenwirken Entwicklungsperspektiven schaffen und konkrete Veränderungen schon im kleinen Rahmen veranlassen.

The primary hypothesis of this paper is that there is a positive correlation between the assistance of NGOs and transnational networks for Nicaraguan migrants in Costa Rica and the local development of both Costa Rica and Nicaragua. This development and its potential take place in a transnational setting, which stretches between both countries, is part of the daily life of migrants and is influenced by several factors such as social network, social capital, remittances, education, legal, socio-demographic and economic aspects. To be able to capture these interactions and effects, it’s necessary to apply the theories of transnationalism as a basis for this hypothesis. The work and contribution of the involved NGOs and (in)formal networks will not be reduced to “visible” development outcomes though, since relevant change cannot be cast into a time frame. The main focus lies upon the potential change, which may occure through elevated consciousness, empowerment and personal development, creating development perpectives and (small) specific changes.
