This thesis serves as a proposal for the reactivation and conversion of the abandoned jam-factory ZUEGG at the Tribusplatz in Lana, a village in South Tyrol (Italy). The listed building contributes to the local development of industry in the region and the industrial architecture. For many inhabitants - formerly employed in the factory - it is also a place of memories with a huge emotional connection. The content of the thesis is divided into two parts: The first part includes an introduction to the subject of conversion, an overview of the historical development of the location and its industry, as well as an urbanistic analysis and documentation of the existing building. The second and main part of the thesis consists of a design project based on the above mentioned analysis. The thorough examination of the existing structure leads to the development of a project, which provides the conversion and extension of the building with specific measures. Different public and semi-public functions as well as flexible spatial solutions should highlight the potential of the existing structure and create attractive and alterable offers for the inhabitants. At the same time, an upgrading of the surrounding commercial and residential area by reorganizing and redesigning the corresponding open spaces and by completing the quarter with different public facilities should take place. The former jam-factory develops into a place for culture and creativity with several new functions. The converted structure fits in the surrounding area and contributes to a lively and high quality quarter.
