Abstract:

The phenomenon of economic growth has been dominating the world of politics and economy since many years. At the same time it is being criticized due to its negative effects on the environment. Until now, the elaboration of the connection with and the effects on spatial planning were insufficient. Thus, the aim of the present master thesis was to answer the questions concerning the anchorage of the phenomenon of economic growth in spatial planning as well as to explain the correlation of economic growth and land use. The review of economic growth and some alternative economic concepts was the theoretical basis of the thesis. Furthermore spatial planning and economic growth were put into context bringing to light conflicts related to both, the objectives of spatial planning instruments and principles of spatial planning. The third part of the thesis contains an empirical analysis of the impacts of gross domestic product growth on land use. It appears that economic growth and land consumption correlate significantly.
