Abstract:

To limit the average global increase in temperature to 2°C until the end of this century, the CO2 emissions must be decreased dramatically until the year 2050. Especially the transport sector must achieve a major contribution to the reduction of CO2 emissions. Therefore in the research project ZENEM the effects of electric taxis on the low voltage system in Vienna were investigated. One result of this research project was that there are some thermal boundary violations of the cable, because of the additional workload for charging the electric taxis. Based on this result and the two theses about transient thermal modelling of cables, which were executed at the institute of electrical devices at TU Vienna, the effects of a charging control are investigated. The aim of this charging control is to hold the cable temperature under the maximum allowed operating temperature. For that purpose a Matlab/Simulink model is developed, to combine the transient thermal modelling of a cable with a charging control at taxi stands. First of all there is a description of the used underlying data. The differences to the used data in the ZENEM project are shown. Afterwards there is a short characterization of the used transient thermal model and which changes are made in this thesis. For the implementation of a charging control two different charging strategies are introduced. One, which reduces the charging power of all taxis at the taxi stand independent from the state of charge of their batteries, if there is a possible thermal boundary violation, and another one, which prefer vehicles with a low state of charge. Four scenarios are defined for testing the model. With the results of these scenarios there is a comparison of controlled and uncontrolled charging. The advantages and disadvantages of the two different charging strategies are described, and the effects of the on the fulfillment of the mobility needs of taxis are analyzed. At the end of the thesis the results are summarized and an outlook on further developments is given.
