Abstract:

Real fires are unpredictable, therefore it is almost impossible to plan and do analyses or measurements to achieve information of real fires. Hence it is necessary to use the results of fire tests and numerically experiments to judge the fire performance, the fire spread or the behaviour of the temperature of the construction. Also fire simulations have a significant role in the evaluation of fires. All the more important is the knowledge of the thermal properties of building materials.
The aim of this master thesis is the determination of the thermal conductivity of normal weight concrete with quartz additives at high temperatures for the continued application in various fire simulation programs.
For the determination of the thermal conductivity the Parallel-Hot-Wire method is applied. This method determines the increase in temperature of the specimen as a function of time. During this work the thermal conductivities of specimen with different moisture contents are determined at temperatures from 90°C up to 600°C.
Afterwards the results of the Parallel-Hot-Wire tests are compared with the current data regulated by standards referred to EUROCODE 2.
Moreover there are fire tests on specimens of concrete with quartz additives to obtain temperatures for comparison with the results of the subsequent fire simulations. Thereby the temperatures of the specimens, which are exposed to the fire on one side, are recorded for different depths of the specimens. The standard time-temperature curve is applied for the fire tests as well as for the fire simulations, which reflects real fires starting from the time of the flashover.
