Palm, D. (2012).
Supply planning in the Automotive Industry is the integrated logistics planning in the product development phase with the aim to plan initially the different supply chains for the delivery of serial parts for the manufacturing of a specific product and to adapt these supply chains during the production phase as the situation demands. The planning scope covers process-oriented the sphere of influence of a vehicle manufacturer from the suppliers to the provision of parts in the manufacturing plant under consideration of all internal and external planning partners. The required logistics service is determined by the demand of the (internal) customer concerning the provision of parts which should be performed at minimal overall costs.
The problem underlying this thesis, are influencing factors on the supply system during the production phase. The occurring changes in a highly complex network with constantly changing internal and external conditions have an impact on logistics services and logistics costs. As result of the initial supply planning after the product development phase, an optimal planning result is on hand and the required logistics service is provided to minimal logistics costs. Based on this, appropriate performance indicators must show if during the production phase changes occur that require a cause-related supply planning of parts or the entire supply chain. Planning must define its extent of validity and those events which activate the review of the planning result and where a replanning is required. The planning triggers described in the scientific literature only cover logistics service-related indicators or car-related cost indicators. This is sufficient to identify problems in the supply chain and to prevent a supply shortfall or cost increases - but cost-saving potentials cannot be exploited.
Aim of this thesis is to develop a process model for the planning of the supply of parts in the automotive industry that analyses and evaluates changes in the supply network and of internal and external conditions with appropriate indicators and initiates reactions to provide the required logistics service at minimum logistics costs. This means a shift from a one-time-planning described in the scientific literature what results in the industrial workaday life in maximal or worst-case scenarios for production quantities, variants, time schedules, prognosis and sequence accuracy or supplier performance as planning basis. This leads to a system where the required logistics service level is maintained at all times but not at minimized logistics costs. Reaching an optimum in logistics part supply during the whole lifecycle of a car also in aspect to the logistics costs can be obtained not until a logistics controlling of these indicators for each supply chain shows cost reduction capabilities and a replanning is performed in the case of profitability.
In this thesis, a holistic planning model under consideration of changes in the serial production phase that trigger a replanning of the supply chain is developed. At first the range of planning tasks is defined in order to reach an optimal planning result for the original equipment manufacturer. The analysis of influence factors on the logistics system shows in addition to logistic service related planning triggers (ex.
missing parts or bad delivery reliability) also planning triggers with logistics cost reduction capabilities. Indicators are then defined for a logistics controlling in the relevant areas "logistics complexity" and "capability of the supply network". It first controls if internal or external influence factors had such an impact on the indicators that they are out of range of the extent of validity of the planning, then initiates an evaluation of the planning effort against the benefit of the planning and finally chooses an appropriate reaction type. This constant controlling of relevant influence factors on the logistic system and the case-related reaction on these changes enables a constantly optimized part-supply for the car manufacturer.
