The history of public education can be traced back to the industrial revolution in Prussia. Back then it was decided to give the opportunity for free education to the public and respectively as many as possible people to get educated. This method was integrated in the USA by Horace Mann and in 1892 the school system was standardized, ergo the curriculum taken in the schools. In Austria it was reformed by Maria Theresa, which model was later on introduced in the Russian educational system. At that time, it corresponded to the needs of the industrial revolution society, which is now called as the Factory model school. Up to this day it hasnt changed appropriately. The educational system is an important part of todays society, which due to the technological advancement has evolved, but its needs arent addressed. In the time of the Information Era, Globalization and Multiculturalism come to light new aspects of the learning like studying together, individual development in personal strengths and interests and inclusive pedagogy. Architecture can play a vital role in addressing them accordingly. In Europe the Scandinavian countries took charge in the search of modern and spacious structures, which correspond to the new needs of the society. Examples of, are the schools De Titaan in Hoorn, the Ørestad School and the Gymnasium in Ørestad. The Austrian response takes shape in the school campus reform Campus+ model. The schools Sonnwendviertel and Attemgasse in Vienna are receiving international attention. In the 10. District of Vienna the area between the Landgutgasse, Laxenburger Street and the train lines will be redeveloped into predominant living spaces and a lot for a school campus. Thus giving the opportunity for the architectural evolution in educational buildings to go one step further.
