Kalista, M. (2019). Approximation of the rough Heston model by machine learning [Diploma Thesis, Technische Universität Wien]. reposiTUm. https://doi.org/10.34726/hss.2019.53760

The objective of this diploma thesis is the approximation of the pricing-function of the Rough-Heston volatility model via an artificial neural network. At the beginning, the pricing-function of this model is calculated. A general declaration of terms, as well as the operating principle of neural networks will illustrate how these networks are trained and how they operate. Subsequently, the key topic of this thesis, the radial basis function network, is covered in detail, including an explanation of why such networks can be used for the approximation of functions. There is also an in-depth description of the essential training algorithm including its activation functions. Finally, the numerically implemented approximation is presented and various simulations of the network are analysed.
