Abstract:

This thesis is about the virtual reconstruction of the Status Quo Synagogue of De- brecen. The virtual building model was created in ArchiCAD 20 and visualised using Artlantis 5. During World War II the synagogue suffered only light damage but due to financial dif- ficulties it was not repaired to be used as house of worship again. In the year of 1962 it was finally demolished. This reconstruction is one of several Austrian and European synagogues, which were virtualy recreated since 1998 as degree dissertations by stu- dents of the Technische Universität Wien. This thesis is organized in five parts. The first two chapters focus on Debrecen and take a glance at the history of the Hungarian jews, of which the Status Quo Synagogue is a part. The third chapter outlines the life cycle of the building. In forth chapter, the basis for the modelling (a small number of photographs and construction drawings) is analysed, the approach of the reconstruction is highlighted and the set up of the digital model explained. The last chapter shows the result of the virtual reconstruction with the help of renderings.
