My diploma project is engaging the site around the Westbahnhof. The two axes Mariahilfer Street and Gürtel are important factors for the city structure. The Mariahilfer Street is notably a part in the politically discussion about the change in buying behavior in modern society. I was aware of the unique characteristics of the place, which has many potentials on different layers. The Westbahnhof is a distinctive endpoint from the Mariahilfer Street and is an important regional hub. It was a overly frequented place before it rapidly lost importance in the year 2015. The new main railway station in Vienna was opened in this year and the Westbahnhof was downgraded to a regional railway station and was systematically modified into a shopping center. It can be assumed that in agglomeration with a scheduled Ikea in the area there will be a rise in visitors. I want to examine the different parameters and quality of this area with an architectonic draft and create a platform for communication. A participative design process for idea finding gives interested parties the possibility to contribute and exchange ideas. My reference project is from the Viennese architect bureau Coop Himmelblau. This Project was approved by the city Vienna but failed because of financial difficulties. It is 70 meters high tower with a restaurant on top located in my target area on the Cristian Broder Platz. My concept is a restaurant which can be rented by the public in fast cycles to experiment and display ones own cooking skills. The rest of the tower should not only be stairs but rather give some open space back to the city. The functions of this are will be determined by the participative design process,
