Abstract

Skeletal anchorage is needed to avoid negative side effects in orthodontic treatment. It is mostly necessary in patients who suffer from periodontal diseases or who are non compliant.

The Imtec-Ortho-Implant system ( 3M Unitek, California, U.S.A.) are mini screws which are used as intraosseous orthodontic anchorage devices.

These screws can be inserted transmucosally without requiring a pilot hole. They can be loaded immediately and can be used for direct as well as for indirect anchorage purposes. The aim of this thesis was to determine the success rate of the Imtec-Ortho-Implant system during orthodontic treatment. Material and Method: In twenty-one patients (16 female, 5 male) thirty-two Imtec-Ortho-Implant screws were inserted. The screws, which were lost during the observation period were registered, and the reason for the preliminary loss were considered. The succes rate of the Ortho-Imtec-Implant screw system was investigated.

Results: 5 out of 32 screws got lost and accordingly the success rate was 84,37%. The causes of loss were the length and the diameter of the used screws and oral hygiene of the patient.
