The demographic change and the associated aging of society in the European Union will significantly change the care sector over the next few years and decades. To cope with the challenges, the development of technical solutions based on ICT is driven forward. Although in particular the European Union invests hundreds of millions of Euros under the Active and Assisted Living Programme, only a few changes are noticeable in the market. One of the reasons is that innovators face various barriers when they want to launch their developed solutions on the market. This study evaluates the various problems and challenges innovators are facing, based on theory and practice, and presents managerial implications for current and future projects to establish their products and services on the market.
