Der Begriff der Integration ist in der österreichischen öffentlichen Diskussion allgegenwärtig, alle verwenden ihn, inhaltlich geht man aber in unterschiedliche Richtungen, da er für die Zuwanderer oder die Wissenschaft etwas anderes als für die Politik bedeutet. Darauf basierend beschäftigt sich die vorliegende Arbeit mit der empirischen Untersuchung des Integrationsbegriffes in Bezug auf seine Bedeutung in der politischen Diskussion und seine Entwicklungsrichtung seit 1997. Als erstes werden Theorien und Definitionen dargestellt, weiters wird auf die europäische und nationale Integrationspolitik im Hinblick auf Drittstaatsangehörige eingegangen. Eine Analyse der Grundsatzprogramme und Regierungsprogramme beleuchtet die Entwicklungsperspektiven sowie das Integrationsverständnis der Parteien näher. Weiters werden die Entwicklungstufen der Fremdengesetznovellen verfolgt, um die Bedeutung des Integrationsbegriffes durch die dahinter stehenden parlamentarischen Diskussionen zu erforschen. Abschließend werden die Theorien und die Definitionen aus dem zweiten Kapitel mit den nachfolgenden Kapiteln über die Aussagen der Abgeordneten verglichen und ihr Zusammenwirken analysiert und so abschließend die Forschungsfrage beantwortet.

The concept of the integration is omnipresent in the Austrian public discussion, everybody uses this term, but concerning the contents one goes in different directions, because it means something else for the politics, or the immigrants or the science. On the basis of this situation the present research has the focus on the empiric aspects of the integration concept concerning its meaning in the political discussion and the trend since 1997. At first theories and definitions are treated, followed by the dealing with the European and national integration politics on behalf of citizens of countries from the outside of the EU. An analysis of the party statements and government programs lights up closer the developing perspectives as well as the integration understanding of the parties. Furthermore the developing steps of the laws relating to aliens are pursued to investigate the meaning of the integration concept by the parliamentary discussions standing behind it. Finally the theories and the definitions from the second chapter are compared with the following chapters about the statements of the members of the parliament in order to analyze the connections between this different areas and so to fulfill the aim of research.
