Zwischen 1988 und 2008 fanden im weststeirischen Laßnitztal insgesamt 14 Grabungskampagnen im Bereich der Villa von Grünau (KG Grünau, MG Groß St. Florian) und zwei dazugehörenden Hügelgräbergruppen statt. In vorliegender Arbeit wurden die Funde und Befunde aus 4 Kampagnen, die alle auf dem östlich gelegenen Grundstücke (Parz. 622) durchgeführt worden waren, bearbeitet und ausgewertet. Aufgearbeitet wurden dabei das kleine Nebengebäude und der Großteil des Osttraktes des Hauptgebäudes. Folgende Bauphasen ließen sich dabei identifizieren: verschiedene Baustrukturen in Holzbauweise (1. Jh. n. Chr.), ältere Steinfundamente (1. H. 2. Jh. n. Chr.?), eine teilweise Planierung um die Mitte des 2. Jhs. n. Chr., Errichtung des Nebengebäudes bzw. des Osttraktes mit Steinfundamenten (kurz nach der Mitte des 2. Jhs. n. Chr.), Um- bzw. Einbauten (noch 2. H. 2. Jh. n. Chr.?) und eine Nachnutzung einzelner Teile in spätantiker Zeit. Das bearbeitete Fundmaterial umfasste neben dem Schwerpunkt Grobkeramik auch eine große Menge an einheimischer feiner, reduzierend gebrannter Ware (mit und ohne Überzug), Importe wie Terra Sigillata, Glasgegenstände (Gefäße, Schmuck), Amphoren, Lampen, verschiedene Metallobjekte (aus Bronze, Eisen, Blei) und Schmuck aus Gold und Bernstein. Anhand der Kleinfunde sind als Handwerkszweige Textilerzeugung (Webstuhlgewichte, Spinnwirteln, Bleietikett) und Metallverarbeitung (Schlackebrocken, Gusstiegelfragmente, Düse eines Blasebalgs) sowie im Bereich der landwirtschaftlichen Produktion Getreideanbau (Vorratsgefäße) und Viehzucht (Knochenfunde) vor Ort nachweisbar.

Between 1988 and 2008, 14 excavation campaigns took place in the area of the Roman villa at Grünau (KG Grünau, MG Groß St. Florian) and at two corresponding groups of barrows in the Laßnitz Valley in Western Styria. In this paper the findings and features of four campaigns all executed on the eastern lot (Parz. 622), are analysed and interpreted, encompassing the small outbuilding and most of the eastern part of the main building. In doing so the following construction phases could be identified: various wood constructions (1st century A.D.), older foundations made of stone (1st half of the 2nd century A.D.?), a partial levelling at or around mid-second century, the rebuilding of some structures (late 2nd half of the 2nd century A.D.?) and a partial reuse/refurbishing in late antiquity. While focussing on coarse ware, the findings also include a large amount of indigenous fine deoxidised burnt ware (with or without coating), imported goods like Samian Ware (Terra Sigillata), objects made of glass (vessels, jewellery) as well as metal (iron, bronze, lead), amphorae, lamps, and jewellery made of gold and amber. There is evidence of textile manufacture (indicated by loom weights, spindle whorls, a marker made of lead) and metalworking (slags, fragments of melting pots, a bellows' nozzle), as well as grain cultivation (storage vessels) and animal husbandry (bone fragments).
