Abstract

Communication guided by theory and concept is one of the core competences of nursing. In order to promote communicative competence, on the one hand evidence-based theoretical knowledge about communication is required, and on the other hand teaching methods that are accompanied by a high level of activity on the part of the learners and a high degree of practical relevance. It is necessary to create a bridge between theory and practice. The importance of simulation is often confirmed and the use of simulation is a suitable method for this purpose. This paper deals with how simulation must be designed in order to promote communicative competence. Scientific concepts of communication and the confrontation with the concept of competence in nursing serve as the basis for this thesis. Learning theories of simulation are described on the basis of behaviorism, cognitivism and constructivism. Simulation to promote communicative competence requires good preparation in which learning goals and competences are to be determined and achieved. If the role script and the learning scenario are adapted to the learning objectives to be achieved, the communicative skills can be trained with simulated patients within the framework of the training. The elements of the simulation refer to the prebriefing, the discussion of the learning scenario as well as the learning line including the development of a basis of trust, whereby efficient learning is guaranteed. This is followed by the simulation, which takes place in as realistic a setting as possible. The most important element is the debriefing, in which the facilitator supports the participants in self-reflection on the simulation situation with appreciative feedback.
