At a time of global power contest between the United States (US) and China, Huawei has become emblematic of the political risks to firms. New technologies are a key battleground between the two major economies and the leading role of Huawei in Fifth Generation (5G) mobile networks and other technologies of the so-called Fourth Industrial Revolution – and the national security implications – have placed the firm in the firing line of US sanctions.
