Abstract

Due to the financial crisis, which has happened in 2008 and 2011, one of the most important tasks, a company has to achieve, is to secure stability and competive-ness. The goal of this master thesis is to find out, if business analysis is capable of increasing the competiveness of Austrian small and medium-sized businesses. Another question should clarify, if there is any financial profit generated out of the usage of business analysis. The third and final question will cope with the possible development business analysis may face in the next couple of years. To gather information about these topics, interviews with six chosen experts were conducted, to merge their views of business analysis with the findings of the re-spective literature. The results of these mergers indicate that business analysis is capable of improv-ing the competiveness in Austrian small and medium-sized businesses, but that it is also important to try to define a realistic goal. Further the results show that some of the interviewed experts do not even know about the financial benefits their re-spective companies achieve throughout the usage of business analysis. Taking the focus to the last question, the experts think, that a specialisation will take place within the next years and that this specialisation will force business analysts to specialize within the sector, they want to work in.
